What is Vinyasa?

Vinyasa yoga, in which movement is synchronized to the breath, is a term that covers a broad range of yoga classes. This style is sometimes also called flow yoga, because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. The breath acts as an anchor to the movement as you to flow from one pose to the next in time with an inhale or an exhale.

The literal translation of vinyasa from Sanskrit is “connection,” according to Ellen Stansell, Ph.D., RYT, and scholar of yogic literature and Sanskrit.

In terms of yoga asana, we can interpret this as a connection between movement and breath.

A cat-cow stretch is an example of a very simple vinyasa because the spine is arched on an inhale and rounded on an exhale. A sun salutation sequence is an example of a more complex vinyasa. Each movement in the series is done in time with an inhalation or an exhalation.

Vinyasa Class Levels: 

Vinyasa Dynamic – 60 MINS
A dynamic, fast-moving sequence with music, coordinating breath and movement to flow from one posture to the next.
This style of yoga is designed to challenge the body. A series of standing and seated poses will give you a full body workout as well as a good stretch.
You will be encouraged to play with inversions and there will be some options for more intermediate poses.
Some yoga experience is recommended.

Vinyasa Dynamic – Warm – 90 MINS
A warm (30 degrees) dynamic, fast-moving sequence with music, coordinating breath and movement to flow from one posture to the next. This style of yoga is designed to challenge the body. A series of standing and seated poses will give you a full body workout as well as a good stretch. You will be encouraged to play with inversions and there will be some options for more intermediate poses.
Some yoga experience is recommended.

Vinyasa Dynamic – 90 MINS
A dynamic, fast-moving sequence with music, coordinating breath and movement to flow from one posture to the next.
This style of yoga is designed to challenge the body. A series of standing and seated poses will give you a full body workout as well as a good stretch.You will be encouraged to play with inversions and there will be some options for more intermediate poses.
Some yoga experience is recommended

Vinyasa KULA Series – 60 mins
Our teacher training sequence! This class is open to all levels, following the same sequence on a weekly basis, to allow to you explore modifications and intermediate poses. It covers fundamental Vinyasa poses taught at a steady pace, allowing you to link movement with breath and pay attention to your form whilst respecting the boundaries of your own body. This is a versatile class, which will allow you to track your progress as beginner, intermediate and advanced options will be given to you.
Open to all levels.

Vinyasa Open – Warm – 60 MINS
This class is warm (30 degrees) and open to all levels, following a variety of teachers and sequences. You will move at your own pace, following the teachers verbal and possible hands on guidance. Posture options will be given for beginner, intermediate and advanced students. These classes are creative and fun, helping to find your connection to your inner teacher. Expect music and if you’re lucky a head massage.
Open to all levels.

Vinyasa Open – 60 MINS

Expect slower paced sequences with music, where you will be encouraged to explore feeling and listening to the subtle messages of your body. It’s all about moving mindfully, following your breath to a focused, non-judgemental awareness of each moment.
Open to all levels and a great place to start for people new to yoga.
