You will learn about and develop:
• Strength: we will be looking at different muscle contractions, bent arm and straight arm strength, positions and postures that will be needed in performing a handstand.
• Mobility: learning how to take care of wrists, forearms, and shoulders with manual therapy techniques
• Co-ordination: body awareness, proprioception – via manual therapy techniques, breath work and locomotive sequences.
• Confidence: how to develop confidence and move with and through fear
Our focus will be on conditioning, alignment, mobility and over coming the fear of falling which will change your perspective of inversions and leave you inspired!
Beware – As you maybe become addicted to being upside down and having fun!
They are all designed to encourage you to feel calm, nourished, to help you heal physically, emotionally and mentally, to help you sleep and guide you to find peace within.
Many of you will know the lovely Nina from Yin and Mindful Vinyasa at the studio! Nina has such a gentle soothing energy which comes through in her guided meditations.

Bikram Yoga consists of a precise sequence of 26 postures and two breathing exercises which must be performed within 90 minutes in a heated room.
There is also the option for 60 minute class, which is a modified 'express' version of the traditional 90 minute practice. The 90 minute class is recommended for first timers, even though it is longer, it is a slower class.
The heated room allows the body to stretch, detoxify, relieve stress, tone, and heal chronic pain such as arthritis, joint aches, knee injuries, back problems, and more.
In Bikram, the teachers are trained to talk you through the flow as part of a moving meditation. Listening to these directions forces practitioners to stop thinking and be in the moment.
Let it rain on your face and body - it's part of the practice! Your sweat is helping to maintain normal body temperature. If you wipe it away, you disrupt the body’s natural, intelligent, and highly adaptive mechanism of self-regulation. Embrace the downpour!
While most, if not all, the postures will create a certain level of discomfort, none should induce a sharp pain. If you feel the latter, slowly back off a bit. You're still reaping the same health benefits even if you're not doing the full expression of the posture. The goal isn't to master every pose but rather to listen to your body and take care of yourself.
Choose light clothing that is breathable, Don't be afraid to show some skin, there's an unspoken body rule of “no judgments” in every studio.
Aim to drink up to two litres of water throughout the day. If you find yourself dehydrated at the start of class, take it easy on the posture. If you feel dizzy, sit down and focus on trying to override the discomfort by using your breath. Trust that you can recover by simply closing your mouth and breathing through your nose.
A good attitude is key, especially since everyone in the room is feeding off each other's energy!
